…Jerome
Kern Inspired by the song of the same name, The
Song Is You is a radio program unlike any other. Each week, veteran
broadcaster and interviewer Bonnie Grice invites her guests to
dip into their musical memories and their CD collections to let
the rest of us know how music has inspired, comforted or just
been a part of their lives. The Song Is You is a relaxed, informative
hour and is a great way to get to know someone through the music
they love. Guests have ranged from celebrated musicians like Marian
McPartland, Dr. Billy Taylor and k.d. lang, to Poet Laureate Billy
Collins, playwright Terrence McNally, talk-show host Montel Williams,
co-founder and Chairman of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun, and
others. The show has just been honored with a “Gracie Allen”
award for excellence in writing, production and programming from
American Women in Radio and Television.
Guests are invited to whittle down their all-time favorite recordings
to 10-12 for the show. What comes through for the listener, though,
is a sense of person, a sense of place and time. And a celebration
of the power that music has over all of us.
The Song Is You airs on WLIU 88.3 FM and WCWP 88.1 FM on Fridays
at 6 p.m. and again on Saturdays at noon; the show is also heard
on Sunday evenings on KCLU in southern California’s Thousand
Oaks/Santa Barbara market.
